Software Engineer Meet Up
by Stephen Jukes
Come and Join Bournemouth Software Engineers!
Bournemouth Software Engineers is a group which meets once a week to explore machine learning and artificial intelligence. The group was started by Johnson Oluwadele who felt the need to bring software engineers together to share and acquire in-depth knowledge in the field. Despite its name, you don’t need to have much code experience – python’s powerful libraries mean that a single line of code can achieve incredible things. You just need an open mind and a willingness to understand how machine learning happens.
Neither do you need to feel that by missing the first meetup you have ‘missed the boat’. As a regular member, you will have access to all the material that we have used since the beginning. In addition, you will have access to our slack channel to ask questions, as well as a place in a friendly environment to ask further questions.
To date, members have covered an introduction to python in Udemy, and via a second Udemy course, are currently learning how to use python’s libraries to clean, represent and analyse data in preparation for machine learning.
Following this course, we hope to take on a project (or a number of projects, depending on group size and diversity of interests) and really get into a true exploration of the world of AI.
Meetings are held fortnightly at Gilmond (Oceans 80, 80 Holdenhurst Road, Bournemouth) on Thursday 17:30 – 19:00, interspersed with ‘virtual’ meetings on Google Hangouts being held on alternate Thursdays (sometimes Wednesdays). New members are always welcome. If you are interested, please visit our website at https://www.meetup.com/Bournemouth-Software-Engineers-Block-AI/.
